This should take a few people back - Vol 1, no 1 of the Puffin Post from 1967. If you joined the Puffin Club you would get a Puffin Post once a quarter - something very special to receive through the letter box. On the back cover - some of the latest puffin books published, inside - articles, stories, reviews, competitions, cartoons and illustrations, & general food for the imagination.
The Puffin Club was founded by the late Kaye Webb, editor of Puffin Books from 1961 to 1979, who did a wonderful job of making good quality, affordable childrens books accessible to the post-war generations. (Info found on SevenStories - the centre for children's books)

Takes me back indeed. I subscribed for perhaps five years in the early 70s - so exciting it was when it came in the post. I remember winning a competition for some odd collage I did of a mermaid on the ocean floor with a treasure chest - lots of shiny green paper for scales and doubtless squashed milk bottle tops for treasure... having a photo of this incomparable art piece in the PP made me feel like a famous person!
Now I live in the US and no-one here would remember the PP. Thanks for the memory.
ta, anonymous - the thanks go also to my brother for lending his old copies - more covers on Kettle of Fish at http://fishkettle.blogspot.com/2006/04/puffin-post-volume-2-number-4-1968.html
